Opensrcs in your AI tool

The Opensrcs MCP lets your AI assistant use Opensrcs while you work. Ask Claude, Cursor, Grok or Codex for the right open source parts in plain words. It searches the hand-picked directory, reads the building blocks and checks licences against what you’re making, then answers with projects you can trust.

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants use outside tools and data. You connect Opensrcs once, and your assistant calls it whenever it needs to.

What your assistant can do

  • Find the right project

    Ask in plain words. Your assistant searches the hand-picked directory by need, category or topic, and reads each project’s details: GitHub activity, licence, and what it works well with.

  • Pick building blocks

    Big projects are made of parts you can reuse on their own. Your assistant finds the right part for a job across every project, each with its own licence and effort to add.

  • Check licences before you build

    Plain-English licence terms, and a check against your situation: commercial or not, closed or open source, hosted, shipped or internal. Also what to watch for when combining projects.

    The MCP comes with the Pro plan.

    Copy your address

    In Account → MCP you’ll find your personal address and setup for each tool.

    Paste it into your tool

    Once your tool uses it, it shows as connected in your account.

Optional: the Opensrcs skill for Claude and Codex tells your assistant to check Opensrcs before recommending open source, and to point out which parts of its answer came from Opensrcs. It’s in the same setup steps.

Private and read-only

  • Read-only

    It looks things up in the directory. It can’t change your account or anything on Opensrcs.

  • Your AI, your subscription

    Your tool does the reasoning with your own plan. Opensrcs never calls an AI model itself.

  • A personal address

    Your MCP address is yours alone. Keep it private, like a password, and we’ll replace it if it leaks.

  • No conversation logs

    We don’t store what your assistant asks, only which tools you’ve connected and when they were last used.

Questions

Do I need Pro?

Yes. The MCP is part of Pro, US$10 a month or US$96 a year. Everything on the website itself, including building blocks and licence guidance, stays free.

Does Opensrcs see my conversations?

No. Your AI tool only sends Opensrcs the searches it needs, and we don’t store them. We only note which tools you’ve connected and when each last used the MCP, so your account can show them as connected.

Does it cost me AI usage?

Your AI tool does the thinking with your own subscription, as it does with any other tool it uses. Opensrcs never calls an AI model itself and doesn’t charge per request.

Can it change anything?

No. The MCP is read-only: it can look things up in the directory, but it can’t change your account or the directory.

My AI tool isn’t listed. Will it work?

Tools that can connect to a remote MCP server usually work with the same personal address. The four listed have step-by-step setup in your account.

Is the licence information legal advice?

No. It’s guidance to help you understand a licence quickly. Always check the project’s actual licence, and ask a lawyer before relying on it for anything important.
